Soft Landscaping – planting, turfing, mulching
Graham Nunns
Head of Horticulture
Soft Landscaping, like Hard Landscaping, requires a broad skillset. If I was to write a dictionary definition it would go something like this:
Soft Landscaping: the act of clearing and preparing ground ready for turfing, seeding, and/or planting. Can include using machinery to level, grade or alter the lie of the land completed, when necessary.
Or, as an alternative, Soft Landscaping: the act of clearing up and making a sodden, muddy mess a thing of beauty after the builders have left!
None of that though mentions the extensive knowledge required to prepare ground, to understand soil profiles, to operate excavators, dumpers, loaders, telehandlers, to understand how to anchor or stake trees, the correct lifting methods for large tree and shrubs.
And, then there’s the mulching, feeding, pruning and irrigation needs of the new areas. None of it should be left to chance, this is your hard earned money and our responsibility.
