How to shape up this September
This month, if you’re looking at your garden and thinking it could do with a little pizazz, look at its shape. You can have all the right flowers and trees but if it’s all straight lines – or it’s simply an expanse of lawn, for example, it can look dull. Consider having your garden re-shaped – it can give it a new lease of life. More on this below.
We also look at other ways to give you and your garden a boost, so take a moment to stop and have a read …
Chris & all the Bushy team
Bright and beautiful
If you want something bright to cheer you up, Lagerstroemia indica – or Crape Myrtle – is a lovely tree or large shrub. The crinkly pink, purple, or white flowers bloom from summer to autumn in gorgeous, large panicles. I particularly love the cerise colour!
Time to shape up!
If your garden needs some interest, adding some curves to borders and beds will help make them stand out.
Introducing a winding garden path between trees and shrubs is fun and invites people to explore.
Create an eye-catching patio shape using paving stones. If you have the space you could even create your own private maze.
Our design services include providing sketches and plans. More details on our website here.
A-mazing Cliveden
If you fancy the idea of a maze in your garden, enjoy a day out at Cliveden near Maidenhead, Berks, and see how it’s done. The impressive Cliveden Maze is just one of many features in this 80-acre estate, which includes a geometric parterre, oriental-inspired Water Garden, a sculpture collection and a manor house (built in 1666), which is now a hotel.
Give your garden wildlife a boost
You can help important pollinators like bees and also the last of several butterfly species that are still around this month. Have sources of nectar in your garden like dahlias, geraniums, sedum, scabiosa and buddleia.
Bushy Beverage
Pomegranates are harvested in autumn, so why not make a tart margarita? Pour 3 tablespoons pomegranate juice into a shaker filled with ice and add 3 tablespoons of tequila, 2 tbspns Cointreau, 1 tbspn lime, 1 tbspn syrup and strain into a glass. Rub some salt round the rim and garnish with pomegranate seeds, or a wedge of lime or orange. Enjoy!
Until next time!
