Design your perfect December
So here we are, in December already! Some people love all the festivities that the month brings, while others not so much – we’ve tried to balance things out a bit in this issue.
If you are feeling a little wistful over the onset of late autumn and are gazing out of your window remembering summer BBQs and lazy days – or simply wishing your garden was different – here’s an idea. Next time you look outside, visualise a new design for your garden, perhaps one which can be landscaped during the quieter months, ready to welcome summer back again. Imagine that! If you’d like to change your garden we at Bushy are here to help you – it’s what we love and do best. Read more below on how to get started.
And yes, we’ve also got a few festive thoughts below too. So, get a hot cuppa – or your favourite tipple – and read on …
Merry Christmas to you!
Chris & all the Bushy team
Containing the festive spirit
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without at least a few traditional, festive garden adornments. It doesn’t have to be ‘all singing and all dancing’ – you could opt for some tasteful containers of ‘Alaska’ holly. Holly is tough and long-lasting but has the advantage of providing shiny bright red berries just at the right time.
Time to design
Whether you just want a new look for your garden or have a different use/s for it in mind, we can help guide you through this process. Begin by considering what you will want to do in the space you have – you may need a variety of ‘zones’ to accommodate relaxation, al fresco dining, somewhere for children to play, perhaps a fruit and veg area etc.
We can help with inspiration on styles, colours, material choices – and provide advice about what kind of soil and aspect your garden has and what will work there. We can sketch out mood boards to hone up ideas before outlining a plan and work schedule with you. Have a chat with us – you can see more about our design services here.
Christmas sights
A trip to the Lanes in Brighton may be on your Christmas shopping list already but did you know that Brighton Pier is one of the best places in the UK to see starling murmurations (Nov – Feb)? You might catch hundreds of thousands of starlings gathering and, as the spectacle is best observed around now – and at sunset – it’s a good way to polish off your day!
Gifts of the season
If you’re still stocking up for Christmas, do take a look at the charming cards, decorations, quirky games, food and garden-themed gifts to buy from a great charity we support, Perennial. You can also donate gifts directly on its website. Perennial is the UK’s only charity dedicated to helping everyone who works in horticulture and their families, when times get tough. Do have a look!
Bushy Beverage
December is the perfect month for relaxing with a hot buttered rum after a busy day. Simply mix a teaspoon of soft light brown sugar, 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp nutmeg in a small bowl, then pour in 100 ml rum and 2 tbsp unsalted, melted butter. Stir together. Divide the mixture between two heatproof glasses. Top each with 100ml boiling water and stir well. Serve with a cinnamon stick to garnish. Mmmm!
Until next time!
