Smile inside and out!

You may have heard the saying ‘A smile is the shortest distance between two people’ – so, if the pandemic is wearing your smile down, look to nature for inspiration.

Poppies aren’t just grown …

This year, the number of people being able to sell poppies during the Remembrance period has been restricted by COVID-19, as has the number of people out to buy them. You can help by doing a fundraising walk or run for the Royal British Legion until 30th November. There are other activities too here …

Not just robins for Christmas …

If you’re wondering what’s new in the garden, the RSPB website is always worth a look. It suggests looking out for migrant birds like redwings, which will have recently arrived (it also has some lovely eco-friendly Christmas ideas to put smiles on faces) …

Get your Glow on at Wisley

Need a bit of razzle dazzle? RHS Wisley Gardens’ GLOW 2020 will lift your spirits with its longest-ever ‘Glow’ trail, with fantastical illuminations and festive music. Tickets available from 21st November 2020 – 4th January 2021. Details here.

Seasonal savouries

This time of year there’s nothing so cheering than home-grown seasonal fayre such as parsnips – here’s a great recipe for sausages with crispy leeks, mustard mash, red wine sauce and honey-glazed parsnips. Mmmm!

Bushy Beverage

Enjoy the smoky flavours of autumn – bonfire or no bonfire! This Caribbean rum blended with spice and caramel is available at supermarkets and on Amazon. Add some coke – after all, coca cola is well known for it’s ‘happiness’ campaigns (some may remember ‘have a coke, have a smile from 1979!).

Last night Storm Ciaran brought a tree down blocking my driveway in Dunsfold. At 7AM this morning I was out there assessing the damage when a Bushy Business truck pulled over and offered to give me a hand. He had a saw in his truck and was able to cut the trunk and move it out the way. Then a second one of your trucks passed by and also offered assistance. With an empty patch of back garden grass, we were told time and time again how lucky we were to have a blank canvas. We just felt like we didn’t know where to begin, or even what we wanted. After a long period of indecision we enlisted the help of the Bushy Boys. What a great choice it turned out to be.From the word “go” they were unfailingly helpful, respectful, accommodating and were clearly experienced professionals. The degree of attention to detail and their willingness and eagerness to decipher our rambling descriptions of our desired elements of the garden was quite remarkable.Every single one of them worked tirelessly through some of the worst weather; snow, wind, ice and rain, ensuring everything was safe, clean and tidy at the end of the day. Each morning they arrived on time, usually early in fact, smartly turned out and ready to start work. No loud music, no swearing, no long cigarette breaks and certainly no beer bellies or builders bums. They came to here work, they were reliable, and they always put in a full day.They were not boastful or big talkers, and it immediately became evident that the standard of their work, their enthusiasm and their passion was the driving force behind their commitment. Their clear communication and regular updates were completely reassuring. I never felt as if I didn’t know what was going on, and they were always happy to discuss and suggest ideas. I had complete confidence in their capabilities.I began to notice very subtle, yet unannounced, levels of excellence in their work which were far beyond my expectations, the lining up of stepping stones with stones in the patio, pleasing sight lines blending in with the house, the perfect lines of the hand built pergola, the happily going above and beyond because it pleased them to be perfect. Not to mention the imaginative and elegant planting. Well, these guys have planted Gold Medal winning Chelsea gardens......why was I so surprised and delighted!?For these reasons, along with countless others, you won’t be surprised to hear that our garden now looks and feels that it is greater than the sum of the parts! We could not be happier.I would suggest that you don’t waste time and money with less capable and less committed companies. Engage Bushy Business, if they can squeeze you in! You will not be disappointed, even if you are slightly put off by their name..... Bushy Business is actually NOT a waxing salon, the Bushy Boys are the ones to get the job done the way you want it.
