This month we’re banishing that ‘fed up with February’ feeling!
Here are our ideas on how to make the most of what’s around you, from flowers and forests – to feasts and fine wine.
Feeling fragrant
You can have fragrant flowers in February! Look out for forsythia (Abeliophyllum distichum Roseum), which has lovely pale pink, star-shaped flowers.
Feeling great
Giant, leafy plants remain on-trend in 2020 and provide an eye-catching display indoors. Alocasia and monstera are two examples but for more inspiration head to Wisley Glasshouse. Between 25 January – 1 March, Wisley stage ‘The Giant Houseplant Takeover’. Think ‘abandoned Victorian house reclaimed by plants’. Apparently there’s even cacti playing chess. More here.
Feeling fed and fabulous
If enjoying a ‘woodland feast over fire supper’, ‘venison butchery and cookery course’ or ‘breakfast in the woods’ gets your tastebuds a-tingle, read on! ‘We are the Salt Box’ was born out of a passion for local produce and seasonal ingredients. The team literally bring people together through food and fire in the South East and their events and recipes are scrumptious … take a peek.
Feel the forest
This February, follow in the footsteps of Kate Middleton and immerse yourself in nature with a spot of forest bathing. Try this wellness trend and feel the power of trees at Winkworth Arboretum on 8 February (and other dates).
Bushy beverage
Valentine’s Day calls for a fine rosé wine – to celebrate, or drown your sorrows, depending on your viewpoint! If you’re surprised to hear the words ‘fine wine’ and ‘rosé’ in the same sentence, believe me, it’s now being taken very seriously indeed. Last year, luxury brands Moet Hennessy (LVMH) and Chanel both bought into rosé vineyards in Provence, France. Ooh la la!
