Potted palm
Bring that tropical faraway feel to your garden with a potted palm on the patio or decking. Places like Northcutts and Squires sell them, or the Palm Centre in Richmond (nice ride out!) – and even Waitrose. There are a couple of hardy palms which tolerate the UK climate and need minimal care. The Chamaerops Humilis grows to 6½ft tall and will withstand cold of around -12°C. You’ll also have seen the Trachycarpus Fortunei. This specimen (pictured) can grow into a beauty, as above (both pictures courtesy of stockists Waitrose!).
Fishy tales
So, there’s been a 10-foot, great white shark off Majorca – if you don’t fancy the water right now but still want some fish, we’ve landed a seafood paella with bite for your BBQ.
Try this paella recipe from Weber…
Or push the boat right out and surprise your guests with a steamed, aromatic sea bass. Learn how to do it like the pro’s and show what a catch you are! There are even a few tips on how to keep the BBQ from smelling fishy afterwards.
Watch this video from Riverside to see how …
If you’re really hooked on seafood, why not do a four-hour Seafood Essentials course with Weber Grill Academy at the Abinger Cookery School?
Treasure Island open-air theatre
Ahoy there me hearties! Enjoy some swash-buckling musical theatre with the family at Squire’s Milford on Saturday 18th August and Bank Holiday Monday 27th August. Combine the magical pirate adventure ‘Treasure Island’ with a picnic – you can pre-order a delicious hamper. Shiver me timbers!
Bushy beverage of the month!
Nothing shouts beach life louder than a chilled cocktail and The Botanist in Farnham does them with a twist! They use plenty of herbs to create unusual concoctions like GREEN PEPPER & GRAPEFRUIT DAIQUIRI and YOUR MOJITO served tall. You can learn how to make your own cocktails at home (and practise drinking them!) with their expert mixologists.
Well that’s all my Bushy beach bytes for now … if all this staycation talk has got you in the holiday mood, you don’t have to worry – we can take care of your garden for you! We’ve got some really nice customers who say even nicer things about our work – and we didn’t make them walk the plank to get them!
We’ll be back next month with more news and ideas on the best, the newest, the most entertaining and interesting. Until then, where’s my hammock?!
