Hurrah! Summer is well and truly here and the 21st June is the longest day of our year. So there’s plenty of daylight in which to enjoy getting out in your garden and further afield.
June is also full of ‘National weeks’, which provide a great reason to celebrate, so we’ve mentioned a few here. What are you waiting for? …
A great excuse for a BBQ
It’s National BBQ week until 2nd June, so why not get your barbie out and surprise everyone with superbly-flavoured wasabi horseradish-infused steaks? Riverside shows you how in this video – and you might want to revisit the recipe again on Father’s Day (16th June), to impress the men in your family.
Psst: If you’re the man who usually does the BBQ and you want a day off, you could always spend Father’s Day at Denbies Wine Estate. They’re throwing a BBQ, beer and wine-tasting event between 12 noon – 3pm, accompanied by live jazz music.
A garden for mind, body and soul
Did you know that yoga in the garden is a ‘thing’? Yoga is not just about connecting to yourself, but you can do it outdoors and feel closer to nature too. Perhaps take some proper lessons – a great time to start might be 21st June, International Yoga Day. Once you know a few exercises, head outside and enjoy the birdsong while you stretch out. For rainy days, consider erecting a yoga studio – a twist on the traditional garden room!
Wedding inspiration
Wedding season is in full swing and, with the average cost of a wedding reaching an all-time high of £30,355, some are starting to use their gardens for the reception rather than hiring a venue. While you may not fancy that responsibility, you could still do your own wedding flowers. Websites like Country Living have some ideas …
Bushy Beverage
It’s English Wine Week until 3rd June and there are a wide range of activities taking place across the country to celebrate. On 1st June at Denbies, you can enjoy a splendid glass of Denbies Sparkling Whitedowns Cuvee as part of a ‘Sparkling Vineyard tour’, followed by afternoon tea on the Farmhouse Lawn. If you can’t make the date, you can still shop sparkling Denbies wines here.
Walkies at Wisley
If you’re the one who walks the dog, how about this? RHS Garden Wisley welcomes you and your canine friend for a special Wednesday evening ‘Walkies at Wisley‘ on 26th June and other dates over the summer.
Also, don’t forget that Wisley Gardens’ new Welcome building is being opened by Alan Titchmarsh on 10th June, so you might want to visit.
When putting this month’s blog together, it reminded me of just how many ‘life phases’ we go through. Our gardens often reflect that, so do have a look at our Project Gallery to see how we could help you make the perfect outdoor space for your needs …
Until next month …
