David and I took some of the team to Sussex Prairies Garden near Henfield, West Sussex yesterday; if you haven’t been you are missing out. ‘Eight acres of naturalistically planted prairie garden containing over 50,000 plants of over a 1000 different varieties.’ It doesn’t disappoint!

The garden is owned by Pauline and Paul who designed and planted it and they were brilliant giving us a talk on the background of the garden, their time working with the inspirational Piet Ouldolf, the hard work it has taken to get to this stage and the hard work it continues to take to keep it looking so beautiful.

Worryingly the guys seemed most interested in Pauline’s revelation that in January they set fire to each bed to burn off last season’s growth! It would take too long to cut back each bed by hand so fire is the answer; can I assure our clients that this is not a method we will be trialling next year!

This garden will continue to improve over the next few months, it’s planted with Summer and early Autumn in mind. It’s a great place to take kids as there’s pathways through the beds and wide areas of lawn and you can even take the dog.

Don’t forget to say hi to the pigs as well, they are awesome and love a belly rub!
